Autographed books can be expensive or cheap, depending on where you buy them. The best place to buy inexpensive autographed books is (in my opinion) eBay. We've listed a bunch of different eBay searches for you on the page header. I've found some fantastic bargains on eBay. If you're looking for a particular book or author your best bet is Abebooks. You'll find their searchbox widget in the right sidebar. Their books are pricier but the selection is amazing.

Another way to get autographed books is at book signings. One problem with this is if you don't live in a large city you may not get many big-time authors signing in your area. Most books stores that have book signings will accept phone or mail orders so if you know where an author is signing you can get signed books this way. At the end of this page you will find links to web sites that provide lists of author signings.

Collectspace has listings of astronaut appearances so if you want to have something signed by an astronaut, this is the place to go.

UACC is the Universal Autograph Collector's Club. You can find a listing of their events here.

Signings Hotline specializes in sports signings. If you have a book by your favorite athlete that you want signed, check here.

I Got Connections has lists of celebrity appearances. Don't get too excited though, these are pretty minor celebrities.
